Do EPC GaN FETs require a negative gate drive voltage? If not, could you explain why it is not needed?
You do not need a negative gate voltage to operate EPC’s enhancement-mode GaN FETs. There are some suppliers FETs that are not as robust in their threshold voltage and so they need a negative voltage to turn them off. Our devices do not. Ours are completely turned off at 0 V. Actually, they are completely off at 0.7 V so you don’t have to worry about supplying a negative voltage. However, if there is a negative voltage applied to the device, we spec a maximum of -4 V on the device so if there is some bounce -4V should be quite manageable.
