Why is it better to have the gate drive return to the inner layer with VIA than going to source on the lower FET directly with no VIA

Why is it better to have the gate drive return to the inner layer with VIA than going to source on the lower FET directly with no VIA

There is no inductance counter effect if you have the gate return go to the source on the lower FET with no via. It can also be done on the same layer. If you do it on the return, you may bridge a little bit. From this webinar, please review “Demonstrations/drawings on What About the Gate Connection” slide). On the high side FET it is the switch return and on the low side FET it is the ground return. You should have one VIA somewhere.
